The son of legendary singer Nick Cave has been jailed after he violently assaulted his mother.

Former model Jethro Lazenby, 30, admitted to brutally attacking his mother Beau Lazenby in her Melbourne home last month.

She had found her troubled son at her front door just after midnight on March 7, before he convinced her to allow him to stay the night.

The following morning the pair got into an argument where Lazenby kneed his mother in the face, causing bleeding and bruising.

Lazenby was born to his Melbourne-based model mother in 1991, who was in a relationship with Cave at the time.

Despite using his father’s name to drive his own modelling career, Lazenby has said in the past he didn’t meet Cave until he was seven.

Lazenby appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via video link while in custody on Friday.

Lazenby was jailed in 2018 for a series of violent assaults on his girlfriend, with a court told he repeatedly told her: 'I'm going to murder you'

The court heard after Lazenby’s mother allowed him to stay the night, she made a bed up for him before she left to go to her own room and locked the door.

The next morning Lazenby demanded she buy him cigarettes, before an argument broke out and he attacked her.

‘While standing in front of the victim the accused has then reached forward and grabbed both the victim’s shoulders with his hands,’ the police prosecutor told the court, the Herald Sun reported.

‘He lunged forward and kneed the victim to the face and nose, causing bleeding and bruising.’

Lazenby left the house after attacking his mother to buy the cigarettes, before she ran to a pub and asked them to call police.

The 30-year-old was arrested shortly after and he has been locked up since.

He struck a deal with prosecutors and agreed to plead guilty to one count of unlawful assault and breaching court orders, while remaining charges including intentionally causing injury were dropped.

Lazenby was on bail at the time of the offence.

Lazenby’s representation Sean Ghattas said he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and that affected his judgement.

Mr Ghattas asked his sentence be time served and for him to be released from prison, but Magistrate Donna Bakos replied: ‘I’m not sure I agree with you.’

She noted his ‘considerable criminal history’, which includes a series of violent assaults on his girlfriend in 2018 which saw him spend time in jail.

The court heard Cave’s son had screamed: ‘I’m going to murder you’ three times while holding the woman down.

Magistrate Bakos said she would consider Lazenby’s medical condition and previous criminal history before making a judgement.

She said she also expected to see an ‘exit plan’ for Lazenby when he does ‘eventually get released’, adding ‘I don’t know when that will be’.

Lazenby will be sentenced in May.
