Aussie tennis great Nick Kyrgios has claimed that he’d rather have a ’10-game winning streak’ in Call of Duty: Warzone, than claim victory at Wimbledon.

It comes as the world-renowned action video game is set to re-launch the iconic Warzone map, Verdansk, today as part Call of Duty’s latest update for Season Three.

The new season will see Call of Duty introduce new Battle Pass rewards, maps and game modes across Black Ops 6’s Multiplayer, Zombies and Warzone modes.

The map has been ‘rebuilt from the ground up’ but retains all the famous details and landmarks from the original map, Call of Duty’s producers, Activision, state.

But upon the re-release of the iconic map, Kyrgios, who recently claimed his first victory since returning from injury at the Miami Open, revealed he ‘could not wait to get the OG squad back together’ to play Verdansk again.

‘Bro, Verdansk?’ he said to Call of Duty.

‘I’d rather have a 10-game winning streak than a Wimbledon win.

‘I’m not even joking!’

The 29-year-old came agonisingly close to clinching the men’s singles title at Wimbledon in 2022, but was outlasted in the final at the All England Club by his good friend Novak Djokovic.

But Kyrgios, an avid gamer, recounted one story of when he was playing Verdansk with his friends and how he was dared by his friends to try and stick an opponent with a chunk of C4 to win the match.

‘So me and the guys we’re in the final circle,’ he began.

‘We got the high ground on broadcast. The gas is starting to creep in and there’s only one guy left on the other team.

‘And we’re just pumping that UAV, right? So I watched this little guy pinging around – we know he’s trapped.

‘But the guys wanted a bit of fun,’ Kyrgios added. ‘”Bet you can’t stick him with a bit of C4? They say”‘

‘”Listen, if I can win a pro tennis match, I sure as s*** can stick a guy with C4,”‘ the seven-time ATP Tour winner explained.

‘Game on. I’m lazered in, waiting, waiting… Gotcha.

‘I lob that C4 over the side of that building, it dropped like 500ft in slow motion.

‘I double-tapped and we all started freaking out. It’s actually hilarious. It was one of the best memories I have from Verdansk, for sure.’

Other stars from the world of sport have also revealed some of their favourite memories from Verdansk, including Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and former Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez.

Rice recounts how he once took revenge on an opponent during a 1v1 duel in the Gulag. The Arsenal star had been bested by the player during a skirmish in Superstore, before landing a cold and calculated headshot to seal revenge.

Hernendez also has fond memories of squabbling with his team-mates and was once phoned by his club’s manager while he was dropping into the Warzone.

Return to Verdansk launches on April 3.
