Nicki Minaj takes over The Late Late Show With James Corden and dishes about motherhood and music

Nicki Minaj temporarily took over hosting The Late Late Show With James Corden on Thursday – much to the faux shock of the programme’s host.

The rapper, 39, commandeered James’ seat at the start of the show, where she later dished about motherhood and making music, leading to James, 43, proclaiming: ‘What the hell is going on here?’

Nicki then played innocent, saying: ‘Oh, hey James. What are you doing here so early?’ before begging him if she could host the nightly news segment, much to the delight of the audience during the brief skit.

Huh! Nicki Minaj temporarily took over hosting The Late Late Show With James Corden on Thursday – much to the faux shock of the programme’s host

After first spotting Nicki in his seat, he responded to her ‘early query’ by stating he was  meditating as usual before the show when he was ‘rudely interrupted’ by the audience roaring for Nicki.

He tried to give her the boot, but Nicki begged to stay, saying: ‘Can I please give America the news tonight?’ James relented and they shared a long desk for the show’s joke-filled news update.

Following their exchange, their interview kicked off, as James asked Nicki to describe the ‘vibe’ at her house with her 16-month-old son and husband Kenneth Petty.

She stated: ‘Papa Bear mania. ‘Papa Bear does what he wants and gets on everybody’s nerves all day, all night. Doesn’t let us sleep and just walks around bossing us around all day. That’s the vibe of my house’.

Father-of-three James noted that happens when you have a child.

Nicki responded: ‘I had a beautiful, peaceful, fly, elegant master bedroom. Now on the side of my bedroom there are like, I don’t know, it’s like he has his own apartment in my bedroom’.

The rapper said she has a bassinette and an old, creaky baby swing just ‘sitting in my bedroom that used to be fly, that I used get up poppin’ in’.

Nicki was on the talk show promoting her new single Do We Have A Problem? with Lil Baby and admitted she still gets nervous ‘every single time’ when she releases music.

‘Because you want the people to like what you do. You know, we wouldn’t be doing it if we didn’t want approval from our fans. So yeah, if you have to wait until it comes out to see if they love it, so yes, I still get nervous,’ Nicki said.

James also asked what it was like when she took a break from music a few years ago.

‘Well, I think that it wasn’t that I stopped loving music, I feel like I stopped loving the music business, you know. For a little bit. And I realized that it’s in my power to navigate the industry the way I want to,’ Nicki said.

‘I think I was giving other people and other entities the power over how my career was being navigated. And now I’m not doing that. I choose now to enjoy every moment of everything I’m doing,’ she said.

James also asked Nicki how motherhood has changed her.

‘I think motherhood has made me see more good in people, see more good in the universe, makes you a little bit more of a forgiving person…

‘Not that you forgive people and you want everybody around you because I have forgiven people recently and not necessarily wanted them in my space,’ Nicki said.

She said her son reminds her that she is blessed because many women dream to have children and ‘not everybody gets that blessing.’

James then asked what her son was like.

She detailed: ‘He is just walking around telling everybody, grown adults, ”What are you doing, what are you doing, what are you doing?’…

‘Like if I’m feeding him his food and take too long with the next spoon he goes, ”What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing?” I’m like, ”What are you doing? I’m feeding you, what the hell”,’ Nicki said.

‘And he just repeats everything, like so you say something, he’s going to repeat it. So a couple of times I feel like we might have heard him say something a little crazy,’ she said.

Nicki also revealed that her upcoming fifth album will be released ‘soon’ and will come out before the summertime.
