Nicky Henderson has high hopes for Might Bite at Sandown

Trainer Nicky Henderson said a schooling session by Might Bite on Thursday morning had been ‘frighteningly good’ ahead of the gelding’s seasonal debut at Sandown on Sunday.

Henderson has chosen to bring back the eight-year-old, who won grade one novice chases at both the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree Grand National meeting, in the Future Stars Intermediate Chase rather than pitch him in against Gold Cup winner Sizing John and Cue Card in the Betfair Chase at Haydock last this month.

Henderson said: ‘Might Bite jumped five fences this morning and he was frightening good.

‘I still rather go to Sandown then wind him up for the Betfair Chase. You would have to get him very ready for that.

‘Kempton and the King George is what we are after and I am aiming him at that.’

Henderson said he is planning to bring back his Champion Hurdler Buveur D’Air in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.

Henderson’s three-time Champion Hurdle runner-up My Tent or Yours will try to win his first race at the track when he makes his comeback in the International Hurdle next month.

Henderson said: ‘It’s amazing how much he has grown and he is progressing in all the right ways.’
