Nicole Kidman admits that her mother Janelle, 83, is still ‘so involved’ in helping her choose her stylish clothing for the red carpet

She’s known for her often-daring fashion choices, but Nicole Kidman still gets valuable advice on her clothing from a trusted source: her mother.

The 56-year-old Oscar winner revealed on Thursday that she still turns to her mother Janelle, 83, for counsel on her chic ensembles, despite having access to Hollywood’s top stylists.

‘My mother is still — she’s so involved in what I wear,’ Kidman admitted at the Planet Omega pop-up launch on Thursday at Chelsea Factory in New York City, according to People.

Nicole, who celebrated her mother’s birthday back in March, also shared that her mother and grandmother were pivotal in helping her develop her taste in clothing.

‘I love fashion. I’ve always loved fashion,’ she gushed.

‘I grew up as a little girl with a grandmother that loved fashion and could sew and my mother the same. They loved beautiful clothes. They could make beautiful clothes,’ she continued.

‘I watched them sew, embroider, and knit, crochet. And I think when you grow up seeing the people in your household do that, then you love that.’

Nicole was even asked if her mother Janelle had given her feedback on the racy black cut-out dress she wore on Wednesday to the CMA Awards in Nashville, where she was accompanied by her husband Keith Urban.

‘I haven’t heard yet. I don’t know if that’s a good sign!’ she joked. ‘She didn’t text me!’

Her country singer husband Keith was coordinated with her in a mottled charcoal shirt and black pants, though he stood out with comically large square-toed black shoes.

The Eyes Wide Shut star, who is an Omega ambassador was on the same page on Thursday night with a similar, but more reserved, black dress.

She had on a sleeveless off-the-shoulder item with a bow over her bust and a train following behind her.

The actress matched her dress with black tights and pointy-toed pumps.

One of Nicole’s most recent fashion controversies erupted last year, when she graced the cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue while wearing a shockingly skimpy school-girl inspired outfit.

The look featured a minuscule pleated gray skirt with pockets dangling out below it, and she paired it with a surprising crop top that looked as if she had simply put on a second copy of the same mini skirt, down to another set of dangling pockets.

But Nicole defended the edgy look, admitting to her Australia director Baz Luhrmann in Vogue Australia that she had ‘begged’ to wear the outfit.

‘I was like, “No, no, I like this one! Am I allowed to wear that?”‘ she recalled, noting that her stylist Katie Grand was shocked.

‘Katie was like, “You’re willing to wear that?!” And I said, “Wear it?! I’m begging you to wear it!”‘
