Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban ‘at odds’ over whether to return to Sydney or live in Los Angeles

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have found themselves at odds over which country to call home.

With the pair calling Nashville home since 2007, Keith, 56, is keen to get back into the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, according to New Idea.

An insider claimed Keith, who has battled drug and alcohol addiction in the past, is worried he is ageing out of being one of the ‘cool kids of country music’ in Nashville, and sees jumping into the thick of it in LA as a great way to stay out of trouble.

‘One of Keith’s keys to staying clean and sober is keeping busy,’ the insider said.

They added that Keith is ‘making noise in his circle that he wants to work more in Los Angeles if he can.’

The couple shelled out around $7million in 2008 for their LA pad – a contemporary five-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion in the exclusive LA enclave of Hidden Valley.

However, the publication also claimed that Keith’s LA dreams are at odds with Nicole’s, 57, who has her ‘heart set’ on returning Down Under with Keith and children Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 13.

‘It’s common knowledge she’s had her heart set on moving back home for a long time,’ the insider claimed.

Nicole’s desire to move back Down Under could be to be closer to her mother Janelle, who has been experiencing health issues since being hospitalised with heart problems in 2016.

‘I would love to be able to have a cup of tea with Mum and sit on the balcony and talk about life and have her tell me what I should be doing,’ she told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2020.

In an interview with the Fresh Air podcast in 2022, the actress also briefly spoke about her mother’s health issues.

She said they’d managed to visit the Art Gallery of New South Wales after-hours, where they took in the Matisse: Life & Spirit exhibition, describing it as ‘soothing balm’.

‘We’re down here primarily to take care of my mother and to have her surrounded by her grandchildren,’ she said at the time.

‘So luckily yesterday, even though Omicron is raging through this country, we were able to take her into the gallery after hours and show her the Matisse exhibit, which coming from a mother who’s raised me in the arts, it was soothing balm. Matisse was soothing balm last night.’

If the family did decide to return to Australia, they’ll certainly be spoiled for choice where to hang their hat.

Nicole and Keith own six apartments in the Latitude building in Sydney’s Milson’s Point, racking up more than $27.5million of purchases in one building.

Realestate.com.au recently reported that the couple bought a three-bedroom spread in the complex for $7.725 million.

The family could also choose to get away from it all at Nicole and Keith’s sprawling Bunya Hill estate in the New South Wales Southern Highlands.

Located in picturesque Sutton Forest, the 45-hectare Black Angus cattle stud was formerly the home of NSW governor Lord Augustus Loftus and set Nicole and Keith back $6.5million in 2008.
