But on Wednesday, one of the stars of the show accidentally let slip a huge part of the new season’s plot.

While at the premiere of the second season of the hit HBO series, 51-year-old Nicole Kidman (who plays Celeste, a domestic abuse survivor) was asked about what it was like to work with 42-year-old actor Alexander Skarsgard – and gave a little too much away with her response.

At the end of last season, Skarsgard’s character (Perry Wright, Kidman’s abusive on-screen husband) gets murdered.

Celeste pushes her husband down the stairs, killing him, after she discovers he raped her friend.

Skarsgard has been vague about whether his character will be back in Season 2, but last night, the cat was let out of the bag.

The second season will pick up where the show left off and explore how the women deal with the trauma following their characters’ experience of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

It will see the addition of Meryl as Mary Louise, a woman determined to get to the bottom of the death that rocked the group in its first season.

Season 2 of the award-winning drama series premieres on HBO June 9 at 9 p.m.
