Nigella Lawson defends toastie recipe in new book

She turned heads earlier this week as she showed off her even slimmer figure after already shrinking from a size 16 to a size 12.

But Nigella Lawson, 57, has fought back at the critics of her ‘boring’ new cookbook during an appearance on Chris Evans’ Radio 2 breakfast show on Friday, saying she doesn’t care what people think.

The TV chef, who was promoting her new cookbook ‘At My Table’, defended herself when Chris playfully teased her about her ‘simple’ recipe.

Simply fabulous: Chef Nigella Lawson, 57, looked slimmer than ever as she headed to Chris Evans’ Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Friday as she defended her simple toastie recipe

Keeping her style simple with a black blazer, trousers and knee-high boots, Nigella looked trim as she carried a homemade cake into the BBC studios.

Nigella shared a laugh with breakfast show host Chris Evans, as she defended the inclusion of a recipe for the ham and cheese toastie.

She said: ‘It’s not always about the recipe. I think it’s more of an enthusiasm. I didn’t even give particular amounts of what to use.

Transformed: Nigella has been looking very trim lately after slimming down last year from a size 16 to a size 12. She is pictured left in 2007

‘Sometimes it’s the middle of the night and I decide ‘I want to make a ham and cheese toastie!

‘I love when people say they like cheddar and marmalade sandwiches. It’s not a recipe but it’s an idea.

‘If you can get pleasure in life why turn away from it? As long as I am the person who is allowed to eat the sandwiches I don’t care what they feel’.

The mother-of-two appeared on Chris Evans’ show along with Martin Freeman, Michael Sheen, Tamsin Greig and The Fizz, comprised of former members of 80s group Bucks Fizz.

Nigella has previoulsy said that there is no real rhyme or reason to her cooking, writing in her books forword that she is neither a ‘professional’ nor ‘a chef’.

Speaking on BBC’s The One Show on Thursday, she added ‘I don’t have a technique’.

After teasing some of the recipes from her new book on her website, fans began to criticise them for being too simple. One fan wrote ‘Boring! You might as well grab a packet of noodles from the supermarket.’

Once known for her curvy figure and love of indulgent food, Miss Lawson slimmed down from a size 16 to a size 12 earlier this year.

Despite her weight loss success, Nigella has previously said she does not believe in any clean eating ‘fad’ diets.

In 2015 she told Good Housekeeping magazine: ‘I wouldn’t want a life where I lived on chia seed pudding, just as I wouldn’t want a life where I lived on eggs Benedict or steak and chips.

‘I love kale and I’m an avocado obsessive. But life is about balance, it’s not about being smug. You don’t eat things because you think they’re good for you.’

Her new book, At My Table: A Celebration of Home Cooking, will be paired with a six-part BBC Two series of the same name, which will be aired in November.
