Nikki Webster details her shocking domestic violence past in bombshell interview

Former child star Nikki Webster has detailed her journey of overcoming domestic violence and the heartbreaking reason why she’s single.

During Friday morning’s Kyle & Jackie O Show, the 37-year-old singer opened up about her personal life in a candid chat, explaining she’s been out of a relationship for ‘many years’.

Webster ended her marriage with husband Matthew McMah in 2018.

‘It’s a long story. Unfortunately, not a very happy story,’ she told hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, adding she’s ‘had a pretty hard few years’.

‘I’ve come from quite a bad background of some domestic violence and stuff,’ Webster added.

‘So I’m happy to be on the other side of that. And, you know, when I’ve just been focusing on life and kids.’

Sandilands was shocked as he appeared unaware of Webster’s past domestic violence experience which made headlines in 2019.

‘That is a s**t go. Where was the world’s media when that was happening?’ he asked.

‘I think it’s more a private matter and just make sure everyone’s okay,’ Webster replied.

‘You’re okay? And you’re good now?’ Sandilands asked.

Webster said she’s doing ‘really good’ and focusing on her two kids rather than looking for love.

Webster was later seen out and about and all grown up ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on Friday.

The 44-year-old flight attendant got into a heated argument with Webster after he pulled up outside her Leichardt dance studio at approximately 2.30pm on June 8 2019.

Webster leaned through the door of McMah’s car and then ‘began slowly rolling the car forward a short distance and stopped’, according to a police statement of facts.

He demanded she close the door and, when she did not, got out and grabbed her forearms ‘causing immediate pain and causing her to fall to the ground’.

Webster then ran into the studio and called police.

After McMah was arrested he told officers that he ‘pulled the (Webster’s) arm away from his car and that she fell over after he let her go’.

McMah, who is understood to work in the aviation industry, proposed to Webster after two-and-a-half years of dating during a romantic holiday to Fiji in 2010. It is unclear when their relationship broke down.

Nikki Webster rose to fame in 2000 when she performed at the Sydney Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, which she used to launch her career as a pop star, whose biggest hit was the 2001 song Strawberry Kisses.

The song went on to become the unofficial anthem of the Matildas’ 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup team – resulting in renewed popularity for Webster.
