The Rescue follows the Tham Luang cave rescue of a Thai soccer team trapped in a cave for 16 days that transfixed the world in 2018.
‘Thai Navy SEALs attempted to retrieve the boys, but lacked the training and equipment to successfully pull it off. On the advice of British expat Vern Unsworth, who lived in the area and was known as ‘the crazy foreign caver,’ the government reached out to cave divers around the world to join the operation,’ THR reported.

The outlet added that the filmakers were able to include unseen archival footage, interviews with survivors and dramatic reenactments.
Oscar-winning directors E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin brought the project to life with a film that provides ‘backstories of these divers, many of whom grew up as loners worrying their families with their peculiar cave hobby,’ according to TIFF.
The Rescue premiered at the 48th Telluride Film Festival last month and is set for an October 8 theatrical release.
