Nine refuse to confirm or deny whether previous contestants of The Block will return for 20th anniversary season: ‘They may all be new faces’

This year marks two decades on the air for Channel Nine’s renovation show The Block.

And fans have been left wondering whether they can look forward to seeing their favourite contestants return to help celebrate the reality hit’s 20th anniversary.

But a Block insider has refused to confirm reports that past Blockheads will compete this year Yahoo reported on Thursday.

The source said that a ‘Fan Vs Favourites’ season may seem like an ‘obvious’ format to celebrate the milestone, but casting is still continuing.

However, the insider did say that producers have plans to celebrate the show’s hugely successful twenty years on the air and teased that season one Blockheads Amity Dry and Gavin ‘Gav’ Atkins and Warren ‘Waz’ Sonin might make an appearance.

‘I think Amity Dry and Gaz and Waz would be fun for Australia to see where they are now but the right cast will be formed based on the best talent we can find.

Maybe they will all be new faces – which won’t stop us from celebrating a pretty impressive milestone.’

The source did say that it was highly unlikely that any Blockheads from last year would appear.

It comes after notorious contestant Kristy Beames, 34, said she would be happy to make a return to the hit show.

Interviewed by Yahoo Lifestyle last month, Kristy said that if producers reached out she would be happy to be back on The Block.

And she added that if she does make it on to the show, viewers can expect her to be even more outspoken than she was in last year’s infamously ‘toxic’ season.

Nine, meanwhile, has confirmed that only five teams will be competing to convert five property’s on the former Island Cove Villas on Phillip Island.

The Block’s producers splashed out a whopping $9.5million for this year’s location, which is two and half hours from Melbourne.

The property currently features nine homes, a communal pool, a BBQ pavilion, tennis court and a children’s playground.
