Nine-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man DIE after being washed off the rocks while fishing in front of shocked beachgoers

  • A man and child have been washed off the rocks at Little Bay in Sydney’s east 
  • Police, paramedics and rescue helicopters were called on Monday afternoon 
  • Paramedics and lifesavers performed CPR but they couldn’t be resuscitated 
  • Witnesses said a woman who accompanied pair was being consoled by police  


Beachgoers were left in shock after a man and boy were pulled from the surf in Sydney’s east on Monday afternoon.

Just after 3pm emergency services were called to Little Bay Beach, Little Bay, following reports a man and a boy had been washed off rocks while fishing.

The man – believed to be in his 40s – was pulled from the water by Surf Lifesavers and a nine-year-old boy was winched from the water by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Paramedics performed CPR; however, both died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established by officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command and an investigation commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
