No gale force winds for Sydney-Hobart race

The Bureau of Meteorology doesn’t anticipate any gale force winds buffeting the Sydney to Hobart fleet in this year’s race.

For the Boxing Day start, there’s expected to be five to 10-knot easterlies with the breeze moving around to the north east later on Tuesday afternoon.

North to north easterlies of around 15 to 25 knots are forecast for most of Wednesday and into Thursday, for some of the fleet, with a weak westerly change moving through Bass Strait on Thursday and a south-west south-east change for the Tasmanian coast the same day.

For the backmarkers, north-east winds are most likely on Friday ahead of a stronger front and westerly change on Saturday.
