Noah Lyles’ mom sends subtle message to Olympic 100m gold medal winner’s girlfriend trackside in Paris

Noah Lyles’ mom carried the flags of America and Jamaica on her fingernails before her son took on his Caribbean rivals in the Olympic 100m final on Sunday night.

It was a nod to Lyles’ girlfriend Junelle Bromfield, a Jamaican runner who is also competing in the Paris Games this summer. 

Lyles secured a first Olympic gold medal after beating Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by 0.005 seconds in a thrilling photo finish.

The American ran over to celebrate with his girlfriend and his mother, who showed off her newly-painted fingernails ahead of the final.

Her right hand carried the stars and stripes of the United States, while her left hand carried the flag of Jamaica.

Bromfield took part in the mixed 4x400m relay on Saturday as Jamaica finished fifth in the final. She will compete in the individual 400m heats on Monday.

On Sunday, Caine Bishop was overcome with emotion after her son’s historic gold medal in the men’s 100m final.  

Lyes crossed the line in 9.79 seconds before sharing a heartwarming moment with his loved ones. He rushed over to hug his mom, who told him: ‘You did it. Oh my god, you’re so amazing.’

She continued: ‘Oh my god, you’re so blessed, I’m so proud of you. I’m so proud. I’m so proud.

Lyles also embraced Bromfield, and his sister, Abby, before returning to the track to continue his celebrations. 

‘It’s the one I wanted, it’s the hard battle, it’s the amazing opponents,’ said Lyles.

‘Everybody came prepared for the fight and I wanted to prove that I’m the man among all of them, I’m the wolf among wolves.

Defending Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy finished fifth in 9.85 seconds. Lyles is targeting further Paris gold in the 200m and relay events.
