Noel Gallagher set to sell catalogue of hits for staggering £200million

Noel Gallagher is set to sell Oasis’s back catalogue of hits for £200m (€235m) after the band’s reunion tour next year.

He said he wants to set up his family for life – because he fears if he leaves the song rights to his three children, they’d ‘probably swap them for a PlayStation game’.

Noel, 57, estimates the hits could be worth £200m – and as he approaches 60, the cash would ensure a luxurious retirement.

His comments will leave fans wondering if the sale plan was a factor in his decision to end the feud with brother Liam, both left, for the tour, which starts next July.

Noel said: ‘The way I look at it is I’ll be approaching 60 and it’s like, do I want to leave it to my kids, who’ll probably swap it for a f****** PlayStation game?

‘Or do I get rid of it now and set everybody up for life? Bob Dylan sold his back catalogue. Hedge-fund guys are buying them up. What do you do? Leave it to your kids? They don’t value music.’

The clamour for tickets means Oasis’s tour may be extended to two years across the world. They are considering adding gigs in South America, Asia and Australia.

A music industry manager said: ‘There were always going to be further dates added to the tour but not on the scale that is being planned now.

‘We are talking about 200 dates over at least two years. It’s estimated this could bring in around £1 bn (€1.9bn).’

Ten million fans from 158 countries queued for tickets when the tour was announced.

HMV said sales of Oasis vinyl records and CDs have surged by 526% in a week.

If the sale of Oasis songs goes ahead, they will follow the likes of Bob Dylan, who sold his songs to Universal Music for a reported £250m (€295m) in 2020, and Bruce Springsteen, who sold his back catalogue to Sony for a reported £380m (€450m) in 2021.
