Her career in film and television has spanned over 40 years. 

But Noni Hazlehurst has never really lived the high life, she told Stellar magazine’s latest issue, published Saturday. 

Despite working steadily, the 65-year-old says she is known to pinch her pennies and prefers charity shop finds to $1000 frocks.

‘I’m a thrifty person. As an actor in Australia, you have to be. So I will wait till I find it recycled in the op shop,’ she tells the publication. 

Noni also related her excitement when she flew first class for the first time ever last year, while filming SBS’s Who Do You Think You Are?   

‘I was calling all my friends excitedly from the lounge,’ she told Stellar magazine.

The veteran actress says that she ‘regrets that she wasn’t more proactive’ earlier in her career, and is currently making up for lost time, by working to take her one-woman play, Mother, to America.   

Noni has enjoyed an illustrious career in the Australian entertainment industry entertainment having won a Logie Award, and Australia Film Institute Award.

She was known for her warm smile as a long-time presenter on the children’s show, Playschool, appearing on as a presenter from 1978 to 2001.

Noni has also been nominated for an Australian ARIA Award. 

Earlier this year, the actress told The Daily Telegraph she has ‘never been busier’ with work.

‘I have actually never been busier. It is quite bizarre and I am very grateful. The roles are coming thick and fast so I am delighted,’ she told the newspaper.
