  • They are hoping to beat West Ham to the signature of the England midfielder
  • Lingard is a free agent after his Manchester United contract ended last month

Jesse Lingard has been offered an initial two-year deal by Nottingham Forest as they hope to beat West Ham to the signature of the England midfielder.

The Hammers, where Lingard had a successful loan spell in 2020-21, are reluctant to raise their own offer, which is currently less than the one made by Forest.

The 29-year-old is expected to decide on his future by the end of this week and is looking for a weekly salary of about £180,000, which would make him comfortably the top earner at the City Ground.

It comes amid rumours he flew to London on Tuesday night for talks over his future

Jesse Lingard’s representatives are seeking up to £10million from his move this summer and he has been offered an initial two-year deal by Nottingham Forest

Yet Sportsmail understands Lingard’s representatives are seeking up to £10million for their role in the deal, which may have played a part in the stalled talks with West Ham.

Lingard has not given up hope of regaining his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of the World Cup this winter.

They believe that if Lingard joins, he would be a statement signing for Forest as they prepare for a first campaign in the Premier League since 1999.

It comes amid speculation that Lingard boarded a flight to London on Tuesday night, on which he posted pictures of himself on a private aircraft and inside the plane’s cockpit.

Fans using flight tracking software believe he was on a plane flying from Manchester to Biggin Hill, on the outskirts of London, ahead of talks about his next move.

However, Sportsmail understands that there were no talks between Forest and Lingard on Tuesday.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis has bankrolled a significant summer spending campaign after Forest sealed promotion to the top flight for the first time this century.

They have already committed about £60m on transfers and are preparing to finalise a double move for Huddersfield’s Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo, which would take the spending to £70m.

Dean Henderson, who arrived on loan from Manchester United, is Forest’s most eye-catching deal so far, while they also broke their transfer record to sign Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin for £17m.
