Nottingham Forest open talks with Nice to sign Kasper Schmeichel as they continue to wait on Dean Henderson’s fitness

  • Nottingham Forest are among the clubs to have approached Kasper Schmeichel
  • The Denmark international, 36, has two clubs showing interest in signing him
  • He joined Nice in August 2022 after ending his successful spell with Leicester

Nottingham Forest are reputed to be among the clubs to have approached Kasper Schmeichel over a return to England from Nice.

The Denmark international has two clubs showing interest but Forest are first signing Matt Turner from Arsenal for £7million, pending his medical today, and are awaiting bulletins on Dean Henderson’s fitness ahead of rekindling that move with Manchester United.

The 36-year-old Danish shot-stopper joined Nice in August 2022 after ending his successful spell with Leicester, where he claimed the Premier League title and FA Cup.

However, Schmeichel struggled to adapt to life in France – with some of his team-mates are growing frustrated by the fact he preferred solitary work to being part of their team training sessions.

Nevertheless, Schmeichel made 46 appearances in all competitions during the 2022-2023 campaign and managed to keep a total of 13 clean sheets for the Ligue 1 side.

Forest are in eager to sign a new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window and believe Schmeichel’s experience could be valuable heading into the 2023-2024 season.

Schmeichel has also been linked with a move to FC Copenhagen in Denmark, but Forest’s interest in him could see that deal fall through the cracks.

Seeing Schmeichel in a Leicester City top will be particularly painful for the Leicester City fans – with their relegation from the top flight making it an even harder viewing.
