Nottingham Forest are closing in on the signing of Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey after the two clubs agreed terms over a move for the midfielder.

Shelvey will sign a two-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground after undergoing a medical later today.

Steve Cooper’s side are looking to make the midfielder their fourth recruit of the window
Forest have moved for the former Liverpool player after finding themselves light in midfield due to the absence of Ryan Yates and Cheikhou Kouyate.
Shelvey’s contract at St James’ Park was due to expire at the end of the season, which has led Steve Cooper’s side to move in for the midfielder.
The 30-year-old has made just three Premier League appearances for the Magpies this year after falling down the pecking order at the Tyneside club.
On top of Shelvey and Wood, Forest have also added Brazilian pair Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa and are also chasing a goalkeeper, a centre-back and a winger before Tuesday’s deadline.

Forest are looking to add Felipe from Atletico Madrid and have asked about Besiktas defender Romain Saiss.
Former Porto centre-back Felipe joined Atletico Madrid in 2019, making 85 appearances for the LaLiga side.
Forest have opened their own talks with the Spanish club, in a bid to add Felipe to their long list of new recruits since returning to the Premier League for the first time in over two decades.
They have been exploring a loan deal for Paris St Germain keeper Keylor Navas as cover for the injured Dean Henderson, who is on loan from Manchester United.
