  • Weren’t the only ones to benefit from his generosity as he shared win with fans

A heartwarming gesture from tennis world number one and seven-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic has given a ball boy an incredible moment he will never forget.

The Serbian star was in a generous mood to share his spoils after his straight sets victory over arch rival Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open men’s final, where Djokovic became the first man to win seven Melbourne grand slam titles.

When the official speeches and presentation were over, ball kids from the tournament were invited back onto Rod Laver Arena for a photo opportunity with Djokovic and the winners’ trophy.

An extremely generous Novak Djokovic invited the ball kids to hold his Australian Open trophy

In an incredible act of kindness rarely seen at official media opportunities, Djokovic turned to the ball boy standing next to him and asked whether he wanted to hold the trophy, much to the boy’s shock and delight.

Other thrilled ball kids were also invited to touch Norman Brookes Challenge Cup.

The ball kids weren’t the only ones to benefit from Djokovic’s generosity.

He gave his tennis racket and sweatbands to fans in the crowd.

He then headed into Melbourne Park to share his historic victory with the large contingent of Serbian fans outside the arena, where he greeted and danced with supporters unable to score a highly sought after ticket to the men’s final.

He also gave his jacket and signed it for a fan who had nothing for Djokovic to sign and  just simply wanted to shake his hand.

The win was Djokovic’s 15th gran slam singles crown, five short of Roger Federer’s all-time record of 20.

His focus now turns to the French Open in May, where he hopes to hold the title of all four grand slams at the same time for a second time.

No man in 50 years of professional tennis has ever held the sport’s four biggest trophies simultaneously on two occasions.
