NSW fans turn on their skipper James Tedesco ‘awful’ State of Origin Queensland Maroons Adelaide

New South Wales fans turn on their skipper as they say James Tedesco’s ‘awful’ State of Origin game one means he’s ‘finished’

NSW Blues fans have turned on their skipper James Tedesco, with many saying he needs to be sacked after a less than impressive performance in the State of Origin opener on Wednesday night.

Queensland defeated New South Wales 26-18 in a thriller in front of a capacity crowd at the Adelaide Oval.

The Blues were ahead with seven minutes to go, but Billy Slater’s men sealed the result when Maroons prop Lindsay Collins upstaged Tedesco, outjumping the fullback to catch a Daly Cherry-Evans kick, before offloading to Munster who crossed for a try.

Tedesco, who many thought shouldn’t have been selected in the side due to his average form at club level, had an awful game and missed a few big tackles at crucial moments.

Blues fans took to social media to savage the Roosters fullback early in the match, and by the end many were calling for him to be sacked.

‘If that doesn’t seal Tedesco’s fate, I don’t know what will,’ tweeted one fan.

‘I never want to see Tedesco in a blues jersey again. Never. Again,’ replied another.

‘Tedesco is finished. This is a disaster-class,’ agreed a third.

‘If James Tedesco really cares about New South Wales he’ll retire from representative footy effective immediately,’ said another.

‘Tedesco’s last origin surely. Been awful,’ replied another.

Other fans focused less on his tackling ability and more on his lack of passing.

‘James Tedesco doesn’t have a pass button on his controller,’ tweeted a fan.

‘Tedesco will never pass – he wants to be the star,’ said another.

‘Honestly…..either pass the ball, Tedesco or get off the bloody field,’ complained a third.

When interviewed about NSW’s performance after the match, Tedesco said he thought NSW had done enough to win, before the late surge from the Maroons.

‘They took their chances and executed really well,’ he said.

Queensland now has a 1-0 lead as the series heads to Suncorp Stadium for Game 2.
