Nuno Tavares’ agent reveals the defender ‘wants to stay’ at Arsenal despite uncertain future

Nuno Tavares’ agent reveals the defender ‘wants to stay’ at Arsenal despite the defender facing an uncertain future after returning from Marseille loan spell

  • Nuno Tavares still wants to play for Arsenal despite his future being uncertain
  • The left-back is set to return to the Gunners after a loan spell at Marseille
  • Tavares has played 28 times for Arsenal but has struggled for consistency

Nuno Tavares is eager to stay at Arsenal despite his future at the club being uncertain, according to his agent.

The left-back joined the Gunners from Benfica in 2021 but following an inconsistent first season at the club he was loaned out to Marseille.

Tavares, who doesn’t currently have a squad number at Arsenal, has two years remaining on his contract at the club.

Despite suggestions that he has no future at the club, Tavares’ agent Cesar Bonaventura told Turkish journalist Tibet Tore that the defender still wants to play for Arsenal.

Bonaventura said: ‘Nuno is still under contract at Arsenal. He wants to stay in the team but we’ll see what happens in the future.’

It remains to be seen whether the left-back could still have a place in Mikel Arteta’s plans

Tavares has made 28 appearances for Arsenal and scored one goal, which came against Manchester United in April 2022.

Although Tavares is capable of some impressive moments, he made several mistakes while playing for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta taking him off early during some matches. Tavares’ actions in training reportedly ‘annoyed’ Arteta.

Tavares scored on his Marseille debut against Reims but was sent off for a reckless challenge that sparked a mass brawl against Montpellier.

He was also kicked out of training for a spell due to a lack of effort.

Tavares represented Portugal at the Under-21 European Championship this summer, with his nation being knocked out by England at the quarter-final stage on Sunday.

The 23-year-old will now have some time off before returning to training with Arsenal, where a decision is likely to be made on his future.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice left-back after joining from Manchester City last year, but Kieran Tierney’s future remains unclear.
