Nutritionist explains how to stop your hair falling out

For many women their hair is an important part of who they are as it’s tied to their identity.

History has shown that hair is a symbol of femininity but unfortunately some women’s hair has stopped growing or is in the process of falling out.

Australian nutritionist and best-selling author, Jessica Sepel, has revealed in a blog post how you can save your precious locks, and explained why they might not be growing.

Female hair is complicated and although there could be a variety of reasons that your hair is failing you, Jessica has shared the main possible factors, one of them being low iron levels.

‘Ask your GP for a blood test, and check that your ferritin levels are around 70,’ she wrote.

‘To boost your iron, eat more greens, red meat twice a week or invest in a high quality supplement.’

Iron isn’t the only level that you need to check as she also said that having low thyroid levels could also have an effect.

HOW TO GROW YOUR HAIR

– Take a multi-mineral

– Eat red meat twice a week

– Increase your intake of greens

– Do stress relieving exercises

– Pay close attention to your digestion

– Monitor your thyroid levels

– Pay attention to your iron levels

If you think this could be the issue Jessica recommends that you support your thyroid with the help of your doctor.

Zinc and silica are two minerals that play a vital role in encouraging hair growth.

Jessica suggests that people who are noticing hair loss take a multi-mineral supplement every day for three months to combat this.

‘Stress is a real pest – it makes everything worse, and it can definitely cause hair to fall out and stall growth,’ she added.

‘For stronger, healthier hair, commit to doing stress-relieving exercises daily.’

Jessica also explained that you need to play close attention to your digestion, absorption and your diet

‘This involves turning off your phone, computer and any distractions, and doing something you love (such as reading, napping, or even sitting in silence!) for 10-20 minutes,’ Jessica continued.

Jessica also explained that you need to play close attention to your digestion, absorption and your diet.

‘The amino acids in protein work to build strong hair cells, while good fats nourish those cells, making your hair appear shiny on the outside,’ she said.

To make sure that you’re absorbing the nutrients you need you have to ensure you remove any blockages.

‘Your body needs to absorb the nutrients and minerals you eat. If it can’t do that, it won’t be able to repair and grow your hair.’
