A man who hurled his dog to its death from a New York City apartment balcony has been sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to felony animal cruelty.
Yuk Cheung, 35, moved out of his girlfriend Jennifer Chan’s apartment and left the 12-year-old pug named Yoda behind.
He came back to the apartment on March 17 and he and Chan got into an argument over who would take care of the dog.
‘(You) would not have to worry about the dog anymore,’ he said as he picked the small dog up and left the apartment.
He threw the pug off of a seventh-floor balcony before going to the street, putting the dog’s body on ice and throwing it away. In court he said that the dog ‘slipped’.
Cheung was sentenced to 45 days in jail along with five years of probation on Tuesday.
He will be banned from owning pets for five years. He also will be registered with the city as an animal abuser.
