NYT poll shows Harris leading Trump for first time since July

A new poll put out by the New York Times on Tuesday has Harris up nationwide over Trump by three points, 49 percent to 46 percent. It’s significant as voters said they view the VP as a ‘change’ candidate.

This is the first time she has overtaken Trump nationally since July after President Joe Biden shockingly dropped out of the race, according to the same survey. Harris’s lead was most significant on the question of representing change among nonwhite and younger likely voters.

Sixty-one percent of nonwhites viewed Harris more as the change candidate, while 29 percent viewed Trump in that way. Among likely voters under 30, 58 percent saw the Democratic nominee as representing change, while 34 percent said the same of the former president.

Last month, shortly after the two candidates went head-to-head on the debate stage, Harris and Trump were tied nationally at 47 percent. The candidates are gearing up for the last four weeks of campaigning before Election Day.

With only 28 days left until Election Day, the political climate is getting hotter and both Harris and Donald Trump are hitting the trail and the media circuit to win over swing state voters. President Joe Biden is headed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin , and Pennsylvania today.
