Sexy lingerie is typically associated with wafer-thin models without an inch to pinch.
But one New Zealand-based fashion label has thrown this stereotype out of the window with a new line of maternity-friendly lacy underwear and bras.
Lonely Lingerie has launched its maternity lingerie as a response to the growing demand for comfortable, easy-to-wear pieces which fit the bodies of pregnant and new mothers.

‘Motherhood is a time when women give over their bodies and a large part of their identity to another being,’ Lonely founder and mother-of-three Helene Morris said.
‘Lingerie requirements can often feel symbolic of this process. Lonely Maternity is designed to make mothers feel beautiful and special at a time when they’re often forced to compromise their choices.’
The new line features a Bonnie maternity bra which includes clips to allow ease and discretion for breastfeeding mothers and lined with bamboo for comfort, a crop for feeding or weaning and a high-waisted brief which fits over widening hips during pregnancy.
The Bonnie briefs also cover caesarean scars and protect the womb area after birth if need be.

New mother Kara Rickards, who is photographed with her baby son wearing the stunning pieces for the campaign, says she is far more comfortable in her own body after giving birth.
‘There’s nothing like growing and then delivering a baby to make you appreciate your body and the things it can do. Having babies makes you way less self-conscious.
‘In my twenties I was never as comfortable in my body as I am now. I think having kids is a big part of that. You know, people poke and prod you and look at your bits and you don’t really think about your body in the same way.’
Most undergarments found in the maternity section are big, bulky and flesh-coloured – hardly the right combination for a new mother’s changing body.
Lonely Lingerie creator Helene says the pieces were designed with both beauty and comfort in mind.

Sarah Lanarch, who shares her daughter with her same-sex partner, was also pictured wearing Lonely’s maternity-friendly pieces.
The NZ-born mother says she is so appreciative of her body for creating another being and feels beautiful in the lingerie.
‘I loved every strange and gross and lovely thing that my body did, and revelled in the sci-fi oddness of an alien in my abdomen. Now there is a big scar across my groin and my flesh looks different and my bum has changed and I’m really smu g about this cool body I have!’ she said.
‘If there’s body-positive post-pregnancy-pride Kool Aid, I must have drunk it, because damn I am so pleased with what I see in the mirror and especially with what this anatomy has achieved.’
