Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell has been arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at a female food delivery person.

Police were called to the 26-year-old’s home in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday night after getting a call about a person with a gun.

The delivery driver told police that Maxwell had pointed the weapon at her.

It is not clear what happened in the lead up to the alleged incident.

He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.

Police said Maxwell was held in custody pending an initial appearance.

Maxwell was the only player in Major League Baseball this year to take a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.

He dropped to a knee before a home game against the Texas Rangers back in September.

Teammate Mark Canha, who is white, put his right hand on one of Maxwell’s shoulders and the two hugged after the anthem finished.

‘Everybody watches sports and so everybody loves sports, so I felt this was the right thing for me to do personally,’ Maxwell said at the time.

The 26-year-old hit .237 with three home runs and 22 RBIs in 76 games this season.

He was projected to be Oakland’s starting catcher next year.
