Obese sisters who weigh 1,000LBS are desperate to get surgery to slim down

Two morbidly obese sisters who weigh a combined total of 1,000 pounds are fighting for their lives as they struggle to lose enough weight to qualify for weight-loss surgery.

Amy and Tammy Slaton from Kentucky are chronicling the ups and downs of their weight loss journey on TLC’s new six-part series 1000-lb Sisters, which premieres on New Year’s Day.

‘In order to get approved for surgery, we need to lose a lot of weight,’ Amy, 31, explains in a preview clip shared by People. ‘I think it’s going to be hard because we’ll both get grumpy if we don’t eat.’

Amy and her husband want to start a family, but at 406 pounds, she is struggling to get pregnant while caring for her older sister.

Tammy, 32, tips the scales at 605 pounds, and her weight has gotten so out of control she had to move in with her sister and brother-in-law after her last hospital stay because she needs help with everyday tasks.

The sisters, who are also YouTube stars, have decided that they want to have bariatric surgery, but their mother doubts they will go through with it.

‘I don’t think you’ll make it,’ she tells Tammy in the clip. ‘I think you’ll chicken out.’

Amy and Tammy share a lot of laughs while cleaning out their refrigerator and tossing out any junk food that may derail their weight-loss goals, but their motivation starts to wane as they battle hunger and cravings.

‘I don’t want to live off frickin’ salads like ya’ll want me to,’ Tammy gripes to her sister, who is dealing with her own issues.

Amy has to seek out a special public scale to weigh herself because of her size, and she ends up crying during the emotional process.

‘When I see my weight, I feel like that truck right there,’ she says tearfully.

The sisters have to face the harsh reality that they won’t even qualify for surgery if they don’t start taking their weight loss seriously.

‘I’m ready to cancel the surgery,’ one of their doctor’s warns Tammy. ‘I don’t see us going forward with it with the progress you’re making right now.’

The pressure to lose weight seems to be pulling the sisters apart as tensions arise between them in the preview clip.

It feels like ya’ll are trying to kick me out,’ Tammy says, and her sister doesn’t disagree.

‘It’d be better for us to get separated for a little bit,’ Amy insists.

The issue seems to be Tammy’s reluctance to change her lifestyle, and Amy’s constant prodding to take her weight loss seriously infuriates her.

‘I’m trying to move forward, so get the f**k off my back,’ Tammy screams at her sister in one scene.

In another, Amy sets her off by reminding her that she has been saying that she wants ‘to get off that walker.’

‘Okay, shut the f**k up. I’ll do it when I’m ready. I try so hard not to frickin’ fight with you, but you keep digging in,’ Tammy shouts.

‘You’re not trying at all,’ Amy hits back.

‘We started this journey together, but there’s only so much one person can do,’ the younger Slaton sister admits in her testimonial.
