‘Obsessed’ woman bombarded her former Tinder lover

Cherelle Eweka, 26, from Southampton, sent hundreds of messages and photos to Paul Airey after their break up

An obsessed lover bombarded her former partner with unwanted naked pictures of herself and even threatened to kill herself if he didn’t take her back.

Cherelle Eweka, 26, from Southampton, sent hundreds of messages and photos to Paul Airey after their break up, including one of herself with a belt around her neck and a caption saying ‘I will try to kill myself’.

Eweka set up an array of fake social media profiles on Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram, and used them to message Mr Airey, his family and even ex-girlfriends – leaving threatening messages urging Mr Airey to contact her.

Mr Airey’s property businesses were also targeted by healthcare assistant Eweka, who posted messages on social media accounts about him.

Prosecutor Natalie Angel told Southampton Magistrates’ Court the pair met after matching on dating app Tinder.

The court heard Mr Airey ended the relationship after Eweka became controlling and didn’t allow him to have any female friends’ numbers saved on his phone.

She bombarded him with unwanted nude images of herself in a bid to win him back and in one distressing incident sent him a picture of a belt around her neck.

Attached to the picture was the caption ‘I will try to kill myself’. Eweka, from Southampton, also described herself as ‘hurting’ and in ‘pain’.

The court heard Eweka harassed Mr Airey, who runs a property letting firm and rents property on Airbnb, for a month-and-a-half after the break up despite requests to stop from him and the police.

She even contacted Mr Airey’s ex-girlfriend, who he was still friends with, saying he never loved her.

Eweka admitted harassment and was given a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £85 costs as well as a £20 victim surcharge

In a victim impact statement read to the court, Mr Airey said he lost business as a result of having to shut down Facebook accounts linked with his companies.

He added: ‘This has caused me stress and anxiety.

‘I have difficulty breathing and sleeping, it’s been difficult for my family and friends who have been contacted by her.’

Eve Shelley, mitigating, said when Eweka met Mr Airey she was in a ‘vulnerable position’ and ‘couldn’t understand why the relationship had suddenly ended’.

She said: ‘She tried to contact him and see why the relationship finished.

‘They had spent 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week with each other and it just stopped.

‘Although she has not been diagnosed with any mental health conditions, at the time her mental health was in a bad place.’

As a result of her conviction Eweka has also lost her job.
