Dashcam camera captures officers chasing down an out-of-control pickup truck on foot after an elderly driver ‘overdosed on painkillers’ and had to be revived

Dashcam footage has captured the moment sheriff’s deputies in South Carolina had to chase down a truck on foot to save the driver’s life after he fell unconscious behind the wheel.
Authorities say the driver was in a daze when his truck started hitting both sides of the US Highway 1 bridge in Kershaw County on Wednesday.
Concerned drivers had called 911 to report that a white Ford F-150 pickup truck was driving erratically on the highway and it appeared its driver was under the influence.

A Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the truck by turning on its sirens.
Several officers began to tail the truck until it slowed down enough that a deputy could run it down, jump in the passenger side and bring it to a stop.
Authorities say when they eventually managed to stop the truck, the elderly driver’s heart had actually stopped.
‘It appeared to the officers that the man had died,’ the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

They managed to quickly revive him with CPR.
Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said deputies found an empty bottle of prescription painkillers in the driver’s pocket.
They believe the man may have overdosed on oxycodone.
‘While enroute to the hospital, the driver was administered Narcan which is used to treat opioid overdoses and he immediately responded,’ the department said.
The man’s name has not been released and he is recovering in hospital.
