DON’T WEAR SUNGLASSES

Research by OkCupid found that profiles with sunglasses in the first image get around 20 per cent fewer likes than those without sunglasses.

And while looking away from the camera is a popular pose for many – experts say that it’s important that you make eye contact in your pictures.

Melissa explained: ‘For pictures, we found that it’s best to not wear sunglasses and that pictures on your profile of you looking directly at the camera, ultimately perform better.’

It is also important to share your interests when writing your profile, particularly when it comes to what music you like listening to

SHARE YOUR MUSICAL TASTES

Melissa revealed it’s important to show off your interests on your dating profile – particularly when it comes to what singers or bands you like.

‘We found that music, movies, books and sports are the top shared interests people talk about in their profiles,’ she explained.

‘With music being number one, we recommend letting people know who your favourite artist is.’

REGULARLY ADD NEW PICTURES

The dating expert also revealed that you should update your profile with new pictures to increase your chances of getting more matches.

Statistics from OkCupid show that regularly adding photographs doubles the amount of likes you get.

Meanwhile, Melissa said it’s also important to keep what you write in your profile up to date – explaining ‘keep it fresh.’

DON’T JUST POST SELFIES

Melissa explained how it’s important that you don’t just fill your profile with photographs of yourself.

‘Don’t include only one photo, upload a variety of photos for the best response,’ she said.

‘Be sure to show a well-rounded version of yourself. Not every photo should be a selfie of you – try to show off your family, your friends, your hobbies, as this gives the person a better idea of who you are.’

PROOFREAD YOUR PROFILE

After writing your profile, it’s important to make sure that you don’t have any typos or grammatical errors.

According to research, over 75 per cent of people are less likely to respond to someone who has made spelling mistakes.

It might be worth getting a friend to proofread your profile, just to be on the safe side.
