Olympics Breakfast Briefing with SIR STEVE REDGRAVE: Jack Carlin and Hamish Turnbull are hoping to extend Team GB’s extraordinary record in the men’s keirin and Emily Campbell aims to go one better than Tokyo silver

Paris 2024 has gone by in a flash. Sunday marks the end of the festival of sport in the French capital after 16 days of drama.

Day 15 brought another flurry of medals for Team GB, on the track and in the pool. In total, two silvers and four bronzes were won to take tally to 63 at these Games – one fewer than their haul in Tokyo.

The most historic went to Izzy Thorpe and Kate Shortman, who claimed Britain’s first-ever medal in the in the artistic swimming duet. Elsewhere, Caden Cunningham took taekwondo silver in the men’s +80kg category.

Georgia Bell came third in the women’s 1500m, while both men’s and women’s 4x400m relay squads were third in their respective finals. Additionally, Noah Williams won bronze in the men’s 10m platform – adding to his silver alongside Tom Daley in the synchronised 10m platform earlier in the Games.

In this morning’s Olympics Breakfast Briefing, Sir Steve Redgrave looks ahead to Team GB’s final few medal opportunities to top their Tokyo tally.

Three come in the velodrome starting with women’s sprint final at 11.45am. Emma Finucane, the reigning world champion, is looking to become the first British woman since Victoria Pendleton in 2008 to take home the top prize.

Then comes the men’s keirin just after 12.30pm. Team GB have had a stranglehold over the event ever since Beijing with Sir Chris Hoy and Sir Jason Kenny winning the last four gold medals.

Jack Carlin and Hamish Turnbull will be hopeful of keeping that extraordinary run going in Paris but they face a tough task with the Netherlands’ Harrie Lavreysen tipped to be standing at the top of the rostrum.

The final event in the velodrome is the women’s omnium which will be taking place just before 1pm. The USA’s Jennifer Valente is the defending world and Olympic champion but Neah Evans will be going for Team GB in that one.

Before that, Emily Campbell is looking to go one better than she did in the women’s weightlifting at 10.30am. China’s Li Wenwen the favourite for gold in the +81kg category.

Mail Sport and The National Lottery have teamed up to bring you exclusive video content from our greatest Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave each day during the Olympic Games in Paris.

Sir Steve won five Gold medals in an illustrious career and is considered by many to be our greatest Olympic hero. Back in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympics, Team GB only won one gold medal – and Steve alongside Matthew Pinsent delivered it for the nation.

This was in an era before National Lottery funding was introduced which has transformed the fortunes of our British athletes. Thanks to National Lottery players, Team GB is now a superpower on the world stage winning 22 Golds and 64 medals at the last Olympics in Tokyo.
