One Australian career pays employees $50,000 a year for working one shift a week, but it comes at a dangerous cost.
Fire and Rescue NSW introduced flexible rosters three years ago which allows firefighters to work one single shift a week and still survive off their income.
Employees also have the option to work two 24 hour shifts each week which meant firefighters could have the ‘optimal work-life balance’, according to News Corp.

Previously, firefighters worked 10-hour day shifts or 14-hour night shifts but employees claimed it wasn’t practical when they had families.
One NSW firefighter, who has two young children, told the publication he had to pay for childcare for all the extra days he was at work but now working the single shift made it easier.
Another firefighter said working the single shift each week made her two hour commute much easier on her family because she didn’t have to do it several times a week.
However, they say it shouldn’t be perceived as ‘easy’ work.
The industry relies on having a certain number of firefighters at each station that are able to be on call every minute of every day.
Despite the high demanding job sometimes requiring firefighters to work a single shift each week, employees are reportedly advised not to have two careers as their full attention is needed in the field.
