One dead and others injured in Kentucky school shooting

At least one person is dead and multiple others are injured after a shooting at a Kentucky high school.

The shooting broke out at Marshall County High School in Caldwell on Tuesday at about 8am.

Kentucky State Police said the suspect has been taken into custody and the scene was secure.   

At least five people were believed to have been shot.

‘Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS… Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded… Much yet unknown,’ Governor Matt Bevin tweeted.

The school was placed in lock down and the entrances to the school were blocked off by first responders.

Parents were being turned away from the school.

There is a heavy police presence at the school and multiple ambulances and emergency helicopters are on scene.

A student inside the school tweeted just after 8am that multiple people had been injured. 

‘Pray for Marshall County High School, I am a student there and we just had a school shooter, multiple students injured, please pray for us,’ she wrote. 

Initial reports suggest the shooting may have taken place in a common room.
