A ‘horrific’ Christmas Day crash between two cars in Brisbane’s east has left one person dead and three more clinging to life in hospital.

Preliminary police investigation suggests that a black sedan veered onto the wrong side of the road and hit a tree before smashing into a silver sedan on Manly Road at 11.20am.

A teenage girl seated in the back of the silver sedan was killed in the crash, while the front passenger was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

The motorist behind the wheel of the black sedan as well as the driver and another passenger of the silver car have all been hospitalised in a serious condition.

Two people had to be cut out of the wreckage, according to The Courier Mail.

Witnesses reported hearing a ‘massive crash’, as emergency services performed CPR on the girl, 18, who ultimately couldn’t be saved. 

Police have pleaded with motorists to ‘take their time’, as 7NEWS revealed motorists still aren’t slowing down – one driver was clocked driving 182km/hr at Coomera and two more were going 187 km/hr near Gaven.

‘Those sort of people shouldn’t be on the roads,’ said Gold Coast road police officer Seargent Ian Hayden. ‘They’re a danger to themselves and to the public.’

Drivers are warned that there are considerable delays in the Manly West area, and that Manly Road itself is closed in both directions as authorities investigate the tragic incident.
