One man dead and another under guard with gunshot wounds after fatal shooting of an elderly woman

A man and a woman have been killed in connected domestic violence-related shootings either side of the Victoria-NSW border.

A man was found dead from a gunshot wound in the far-western NSW town of Rufus on Tuesday. 

His death was connected to that of a woman, 82, killed in the same manner in Red Cliffs, south of Mildura, Victoria, just hours earlier, police say.

A third person, 58, was found suffering a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Rufus property and was rushed to hospital.

Police were called to the Red Cliffs home at 12.30pm on Tuesday, where a woman, 82, was found with a fatal gunshot wound. 

An hour later, NSW police were called to a property on Rufus River Road, 61 kilometres west of Mildura, where they found the body of a man suffering a gunshot wound.

The age of the deceased man is unknown. 

The 58-year-man was discovered at 3pm.

‘He sustained what is believed to be self-inflicted injuries and has been taken to a Victorian hospital in a critical condition under police guard,’ police said.

All parties are believed to be known to each other.

The exact circumstances are yet to be determined.

A NSW Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia they’re not looking for anyone else in relation to the incidents.

Homicide Squad detectives from both Victoria and NSW continue to investigate.
