One of Britain’s first gay fathers has revealed he and his lover are expecting triplets.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 50, and his husband Tony, 55, who became the first same sex couple to be formally registered as parents in 1999, separated in October last year.

Barrie then revealed he was in a relationship with his assistant Scott Hutchison, 25, who once dated his 20-year-old daughter, Saffron.

Just one month later, father-of-five Barrie and his new partner revealed they were having twin daughters – but have today announced they have triplets on the way.

All three men and the Drewitt-Barlow’s children still live together in a £6m Florida mansion.

Tony, who is recovering after suffering life-threatening complications during radiotherapy to combat cancer, has agreed to be godfather to his ex-partner’s new babies.

Writing on Instagram, Barrie wrote last night: ‘We are PREGNANT!!! WAHOOOOOOOO Scott Robert Hutchison. Now, i will be boring you all with the scan photos over the next few months x’

The couple used a surrogate and sex selection ‘to even things out’ and have girls because their home has ‘too much testosterone’.

The pair are now preparing a £100,000 nursery for their girls, who are due in October.

Barrie told The Sun: ‘Tony is excited too, although it does underline that our marriage really is over after all these years, so it is very bittersweet.

‘But we are all going to remain living under the same roof. Tony is Dad, I’m Daddy and while at the moment Scott is stepdad, soon he’s going to be Daddy Two.

‘We are happy, we want to co-parent our kids and that’s all that matters. If people don’t get it, that’s their problem, not ours.’

The fathers, from Essex, who are worth £40million and live in a £6million ten-bedroom mansion in Florida, went on to have three more children.

The pair, who made their millions through ventures including a surrogacy agency and medical research firm, became civil partners in 2006 and married in 2014.

But Barrie has previously told how they ‘slid into a platonic relationship’ after Tony was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.

He said Mr Hutchison, his PA of seven years, became a ‘shoulder to cry on’ when Tony, who is now in remission, was in hospital during treatment in 2018.

Last year, he announced that Tony remained his ‘true love’ but that they would be ending their 32-year relationship.
