Police said Work Safe and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will be notified of the incident.

Data recorded by Flight Radar showed the aircraft went down just minutes after it took off from the airport.

Aerial images obtained by 9News depict a fire crew standing near the scene of the crash where the damaged helicopter appeared to have been doused in foam.

A spokesperson for Moorabbin Airport confirmed it was aware an incident had taken place, adding it was working with emergency services.

The helicopter’s tail boom and rotor blades appeared to have been severely bent in the crash landing.

More to come.
