One-year-old boy dies in a hot car in Miami

A one-year-old boy has died after he was left inside a sweltering car for four hours in Miami.

The baby was found unconscious and unattended in the car parking lot outside a beauty salon where his mother works on Wednesday afternoon. The boy’s mother allegedly ‘forgot him’.

Passerby screamed and crowds gathered when the baby was discovered on the floor of the vehicle.

The child died after being taken to Kendall Medical Center.

The mother allegedly forgot her child and left him in the car unattended for four hours, where he was discovered 'pale and purple' and unconscious around 12.30pm

The horrific incident took place at a strip mall on Bird Rd and 97th Avenue in Florida.

Witnesses on the scene reported that the mother of the child worked at a beauty salon at the strip mall and that she came into work around 9am.

The child was found around 12.30pm. 

‘I heard some screaming in the back, so I went running to see what was going on and there was a bunch of people outside,’ pharmacist Juan Carmenat, who works at the strip mall and called police said. 

‘The baby was on the floor. It was already pale and looking out, it was already purple. He wasn’t responding,’ he added.

Temperatures in Miami were in the mid-80s but could have reached around 100F inside the car, according toCBS Miami.  

Witnesses say the mother was crushed, screaming for her child.  She also reportedly blamed the incident on work. 

Miami-Dade Police is investigating the death. No charges have been filed.

The incident marks the first hot car death due to heat stroke in the US in 2018.

According to www.KidsandCars.org 43 children died after they were left in hot vehicles in 2017.
