  • AFL fans are outraged, feel it is disrespectful
  • Fox Footy yet to confirm the development

Outraged footy fans are demanding answers amid growing speculation the derby between the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power on Saturday will be commentated from Fox Footy’s Melbourne studio.

Respected AFL identity Gerard Healy revealed the development on SEN Radio, and it didn’t take long for supporters to vent their frustration online.

‘I am sure the SA Footy public [will] love that their iconic showpiece game with one of the biggest rivalries in Australian sport being called from Melbourne,’ one fan tweeted.

Another asked: ‘Does any other major sporting league globally do this? So embarrassing and amateur.’

Others pointed out rival sports such as football, cricket and F1 often provide studio coverage as opposed to live analysis from the ground as a cost cutting measure.

‘BBL [T20 cricket] did it all season. It’s the future, has to start somewhere,’ one tweeted, with another stating: ‘What are the AFL doing on this? This used to be an absolute industry taboo, and it was once a contractual obligation for broadcasters to call from venue.

‘Not good enough they have let standards drop to this degree. Dollar over fan experience and presentation of the game.’

According to sportsbet, Power will enter the round three AFL clash as favourites, thanks to their impressive season opening win against the Brisbane Lions.

While Ken Hinkley’s men were outclassed by a relentless Collingwood last start, the Crows remain winless in 2023.

It follows defeats at the hands of the GWS Giants and Richmond Tigers.

Hinkley has also made a selection statement, with star forwards Mitch Georgiades and Orazio Fantasia both dropped.

Port Adelaide have won five of the past six derbies, with action at Adelaide Oval from 7.30pm.

Daily Mail Australia has approached Fox Footy for comment.
