‘We were there 15 minutes and no sign of owners.’

Toowoomba reached a high of 28C on Saturday.

The woman shared a picture of the dog – which appeared to be a Maltese breed – sitting in the back of the car.

Angered viewers told the woman she should report the sighting to RSPCA or the police.

‘This is horrible, poor baby,’ one commenter wrote.

‘People make me sick. Leave your animals at home,’ wrote another.

Some viewers suggested the woman should ‘smash’ the window to rescue the dog, while other’s debated whether the dog would actually overheat in the underground car park.

In Queensland, there is no offence in the Animal Care and Protection Act related to leaving a dog in the car, the RSPCA website says.

‘Do not risk your dog’s life in a hot car. Leave your dog (and other animals) at home with shade, shelter and access to fresh water,’ the RSPCA advises.
