Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has attacked the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government over its plans to build a 100-metre high Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya.
Quoting a Supreme Court ruling, Owaisi said the government cannot use taxpayers’ money for religious purposes and the BJP plans are a violation of its judgement.
‘Justice Dipak Misra, in the Muslim religious structures demolition case of 2002 Gujarat riots, set aside the Gujarat HC order allowing the state government to release compensation for damaged religious sites,’ Owaisi said.

He questioned why public money that could not used for the repair and reconstruction of religious structures damaged by rioting, can now be used by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for constructing a 100-metre statue of Lord Ram?
Owaisi also criticised the comment made by BJP MLA Sangeet Son on Taj Mahal where he said the monument was built by ‘traitors’.
‘I am asking Sangeet Som whether he will ask his party to go to UNESCO against the heritage structure of Taj Mahal, whether he will ask Prime Minister not to hoist the national flag on Red Fort as it was built by ‘traitors’ too, or whether he or his party will stop hosting foreign dignitaries at Hyderabad House in Delhi, which was also built by ‘traitors’,’ Owaisi said.
He said the BJP is trying to hush up the real issue of unemployment, and the effects of GST and demonetisation, and instead trying to polarise the society before Gujarat elections.

He also said that he hopes the people of Gujarat will teach Modi and the BJP a lesson for ‘ignoring’ the successive visits of the PM to the state and the announcement of various sops by the party and its government.
Owaisi also criticised Modi over the recent tweet of US President Donald Trump praising Pakistan.
‘Our PM was hugging US President Trump like it was no Eid again, but now USA is showing its true face.
‘US has now questioned India over slavery and even raised the issue of Gauri Lankesh’s murder.
‘They have also questioned free speech in the backdrop of the threat to Dalit professor Kancha Illaiyya,’ he added.
