A university rugby club is being investigated over claims that players collected pictures of female students posing nude, which were then ‘rated’ by their team-mates.

Members of Oxford Brookes Union Rugby Football Club were allegedly asked during an online social meeting to gather as many explicit pictures as they could.

The photos of the ‘Brookes girls’ were then apparently judged by all those present and their bodies assessed.

One post, seen by MailOnline, purported to tell one of the women ‘you ranked third’.

Oxford Brookes University said it is investigating the claims as ‘a matter of urgency’ while the rugby club said it was also looking into the allegations.

News of the alleged scandal emerged when a rugby club member posted a direct message on an Instagram page called @brookesconfessions, a gossip account for students to confess about what they have been getting up to.

The post, which was later deleted, claimed: ‘During lockdown there was a rugby social where everyone had to try and get as many nudes from Brookes girls as possible, then they were shared with everyone and we voted for the best picture.’

The apparent boast prompted fury amongst students, with many taking to social media to make their views clear.

Beneather the post, one student fumed: ‘What. The Actual. F**k. This is disgusting if true. What you playing at @oburfc.’

A student who did not want to be named told MailOnline: ‘This is absolutely unacceptable behaviour and the university and the rugby club need to get to the bottom of this.

‘It’s not the first time that these rugger b****** have got up to this kind of nonsense but there should be no place for it. It’s shameful that they think they can behave like this.’

A spokesman for Oxford Brookes University said: ‘The University is aware of allegations currently circulating on social media. We take such allegations extremely seriously and are investigating them as a matter of urgency.’

One player posted on an Oxford Brookes students Facebook page: ‘Obviously none of us at OBURFC condone this behaviour and we all agree this completely disgusting.

‘But relying on evidence from an anonymous Brookes meme post to paint the whole club with the same brush could be dangerous, as this is just not true and is simply not acceptable at OBURFC.’

The efforts to get to find and punish the culprits is being led by ‘Say it Loud’ a sexual violence support group started by Oxford Brookes student Meredith Graham.

Posting on a student Facebook page, she wrote: ‘Unfortunately, it has come to myself and the Say it Loud that a sports team here at OBU have been distributing explicit pictures that were sent by female students at Brookes.

‘We wanted to educate and inform that sending explicit pictures without the owner’s consent is now considered an illegal offence.’
