Oxford University student to find out if she faces jail

Lavinia Woodward arrives at Oxford Crown Court today to see if she faces prison for attacking her boyfriend

A Oxford University student dubbed ‘too posh for prison’ after she appeared to swerve a jail term for attacking her boyfriend could today be jailed.

Lavinia Woodward – a medical student who hoped to become a surgeon – admitted stabbing Thomas Fairclough in the leg in a drink and drug-fuelled clash at Christ Church college.

But her case caused outcry when judge Ian Pringle delayed sentencing and appeared to suggest she might not face prison.

He said: ‘If this was a one-off, to prevent this extraordinarily able young lady from following her desire to enter the [medical] profession would be too severe.’

Woodward returns to Oxford Crown Court today to see if she will be jailed over the attack.

A prison term could result in her being barred from working as a doctor.

Woodward, who currently lives in Milan, posted on social media earlier this year that she had entered The Priory addiction treatment centre in Woking, Surrey, and is understood to be tackling her use of cocaine.
