P-plater doing 167kmh said he didn’t know he was speeding

A teenager who was stopped by police travelling at 167km/h told officers he was unaware he was speeding.

NSW police spotted the 19-year-old driving on Hume Highway at Jugiong, west of Canberra, at 6.33am, according to The Canberra Times. 

Although he was initially recorded travelling at 147km/h, officers said the man then sped up to 167km/h.

A picture of the car the 19-year-old P plate driver was in and the speedometer were posted by NSW officers to Facebook.

‘I didn’t realise I was speeding,’ officers said the man told them.

‘Sure thing bro. It would have felt like you were travelling to another dimension doing 167km/h,’ police responded on social media. 

The 19-year-old has handed a $2,384 fine for speeding and not displaying his P plates. 

His license has been suspended for six months.
