A four-year-old Pennsylvania girl who was abducted from her bedroom and sexually assaulted by a stranger told authorities that ‘a monster took me when I was sleeping’.

Humberto Guzman-Garcia, 35, broke into the family’s Avondale home around 3.30am Sunday and knocked on the family’s door, according to the Chester County district attorney’s office.

The little girl, whose room is located near the front door, woke up and opened the door.

Authorities said the door was still locked by the top latch, but Guzman-Garcia reached in, opened the latch and took the child from the home.

Guzman-Garcia allegedly took her outside to a shed and sexually assaulted her.

When the girl’s parents could not locate her, the father went outside and saw Guzman-Garcia with his pants unbuckled near the shed about 50 yards away.

Authorities said Guzman-Garcia ran off but was later found hiding in an abandoned car in a parking lot.

‘Vigilance on the part of the young girl’s parents and quick work from responding troopers were instrumental in apprehending a dangerous predator,’ said Captain James H. Fisher, commanding officer of Pennsylvania State Police Troop J.

Officials said Guzman-Garcia is a complete stranger to the victim’s family.

It’s unknown whether he had observed the victim earlier in the day and followed her to the family’s residence.

‘This crime is every parent’s nightmare,’ Chester County District Attorney Thomas Hogan said in a statement. ‘This is proof that evil exists in this world.’

Hogan also called the attack ‘bold and brazen’. He said that given the nature of the attack, authorities ‘are concerned that there could have been prior victims’.

The child’s mother, who didn’t want to be identified, told NBC 10 in Spanish that her daughter seems okay and she’s just happy that police caught the man her daughter called a ‘monster’.

Investigators said the man admitted to abducting the girl and committing a sexual act on her.

Guzman-Garcia has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated indecent assault, attempted rape and related charges.

He’s being held at the Chester County Correctional Facility awaiting a June 22 preliminary hearing after he failed to post $500,000 bail.

Guzman-Garcia, who was born in Mexico but is a US citizen, had previously pleaded guilty in Chester County to charges of public drunkenness and criminal trespass.

The district attorney’s office is asking the public to call Trooper Stefano Gallina at (610) 268-2022 if they have any information about Guzman-Garcia.
