The apparent reason for Patrick Beverley’s blow-up on Thursday night has been revealed, as the Bucks guard reportedly reacted to something said by a nearby fan.
Towards the end of the Bucks’ Game 6 elimination loss to the Pacers, Beverley lost his temper and twice threw a ball at fans.
And according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Beverley reacted after one fan yelled, ‘Cancun…Cancun on 3’ as the Bucks were breaking their huddle.
The Mexican tourist destination is a popular running bit amongst NBA fans, who joke that players will be going there after their teams are eliminated.
Beverley offered some contrition on Friday morning, writing on X, ‘I have to be better. And I will.’

In the bizarre scene, Beverley was seen chucking a ball towards the Pacers fans sat behind the Bucks’ bench, hitting a woman on the side of the head.
He then demanded the ball back from another fan, who kindly obliged but soon saw the ball being launched at him by Beverley as well.
The furious guard had to be held back by his teammates as the stunned Pacers fans watched on in disbelief.
Beverley has yet to receive any potential punishment from the league, though The Athletic reported that the league is looking into the incident – as well as another incident with the media after the game.
Beverley received further heat for refusing to answer a question from an ESPN producer – because she didn’t subscribe to his podcast
The 35-year-old further found himself in hot water when a video showed him refusing to talk to ESPN producer Malinda Adams because she didn’t subscribe to his podcast.
As another reporter tried to ask Beverley a question, he then told Adams to ‘get that mic out of my face please.’
Beverley was panned by Adams’ ESPN colleagues, other journalists and ex-NBA players for his actions.
Adams took to X on Friday to reveal that Beverley called her to apologize.
She posted: ‘I want to thank everyone for their kind words and support. I am humbled.
‘Patrick Beverley just called me and apologized. I appreciate it and accept it. The Bucks also reached out to apologize. I’ve been in news for over 40 years and kindness and grace always win.’
