Paloma Faith reveals her fans are baffled by her decision

She previously discussed her choice to raise her child as gender neutral.

And now Paloma Faith has explained her thought process behind her decision has as much to do with privacy as it does with identity while appearing on Wednesday’s Lorraine.

The 36-year-old singer welcomed her first child with French beau Leyman Lahcine in December last year and she has not confirmed the baby’s sex to her fans or the public.

Paloma admitted she’s determined to keep her child’s identity under wraps and insists it has as much to do with protecting the tot from her fame as it does to do with gender roles.

Speaking on the morning stalwart, she shared: ‘I think people are getting confused between the privacy element and the gender neutrality.

‘They might be shy and might not want people to know that I’m their mum so I’m not going to put that on them.

Adding: ‘So that’s one thing and then the other thing is that I believe it’s very important for me, for boys to learn about kindness and nurturing and dolls give boys that opportunity and then it’s very important for girls to believe they can achieve anything, and be scientists, mathematicians, firefighters, whatever.

‘The confusion is that I used a word that means different things to different people.’

Paloma is adamant she doesn’t care what her child grows up to be as long as they are a happy person who is able to contribute something positive to society.

The Crybaby hitmaker continued: ‘To be honest, I wouldn’t mind if my child was gay, straight, transgender, even worked in HR as a heterosexual grey-suit wearing person, I’d love them anyway! I want my child to feel they can be loved whoever they are.’

In October, she opened up to Mirror about her decision to raise her child as gender-neutral.

She explained: ‘I love being a mum. I want two or three kids in all and they’ll be gender neutral.’

The singer has refused to dress her child in pink and blue gender identity colors, revealing that her decision was inspired by her belief in gender equality.

The Only Love Can Hurt Like This songstress marched in the International Women’s Day in London back in 2015, advocating for equality and speaking out about her strong feminist beliefs.

Paloma has also made it known that she supports gay rights.

She is not the only star to raise their child as gender neutral; last year Russell Brand revealed that he and his wife Laura Gallacher refuse to impose a gender identity on their daughter Mabel.

Meanwhile, Paloma had appeared on ITV’s Lorraine with Robbie Williams.

He spoke of his rocky road to love with wife Ayda Field, that saw the duo split three times, and revealed it had been actress Cameron Diaz that spurred him to pop the question.

The Angels singer recalled: ‘The third time [we split] I was out on evening and I was with Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz and I was talking about this girl I just split up with.

‘Cameron said, “Sounds like it’s not over,” and in that instant something clicked… and I thought we should get married. So I got in the car and went to her door and that’s the moment I committed to her.’

Ayda has previously spoken publicly of the involvement Cameron had in reigniting her relationship with Robbie and said: ‘A few years ago I saw Cameron working out in a gym. I thought about going to say, “Thank you,” but she was sweating over a machine and I thought it would seem strange – but it’s thanks to her we’re back together.’

Settling down has seen Robbie clean up his act over the years, with the performer reflecting: ‘Life is mostly being sober and alright, but then the little demons come out every now and then and start dancing.’

‘Every now and then I can still be an idiot,’ he admitted.

Robbie also touched on his hopes to ‘crack America’, admitting that jet-setting across the globe can be tough, as it means he is forced to spend time away from his children. He shares Theodora, five, and Charlton, three, with the Loose Women star.

‘I’m in love with my children,’ he said. ‘When they’re not there, it’s nice, I get to watch YouTube, but after three days I missed them a lot and I thought, “Why am I doing this? Trying to crack America, I have the cash and record sales!”

‘In LA I’m Bruce Wayne and in the UK I’m Batman. I was in a mall staring at people and they didn’t know who I was and I thought I don’t like that, I’m 43 and I want to crack America.’
