Cam Newton wants to now add another title to his name besides starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers: feminist.

Newton, 28, donned a raven fedora with a statement-worthy Rosie the Riveter pin as he arrived at Fort Field on Sunday for the Panther’s game against the Detroit Lions. 

This comes after the player apologized for making sexist comments regarding Charlotte Observer’s Jourdan Rodrigue who asked questions regarding routes and Devin Funchess.

The reaction was swift as feminist and media sites everywhere criticized him for his comments.

The star player even lost his Dannon sponsorship and he would eventually go on to apologize for his remarks.

A somber Newton shared the video apology to his Twitter page saying: ‘After careful thought, I understand that my word choice was extremely degrading and disrespectful to women.

‘To be honest, that was not my intentions, and if you are a person who took offense to what I said, I sincerely apologize to you. I’m a man who tries to be a positive role model in my community and tries to use my platform to inspire others.’

‘I realize that the joke is really on me… I’ve learned a valuable lesson from this, and to the young people who see this, I hope that you learn something from this as well. Don’t be like me, be better than me.’ 

The iconic Rosie the River represents all the hard work women put in during World War II. 

While men went to go serve in the military, many women joined the workforce, manning the factories and businesses to keep the country stable. 

The ‘We Can Do It’ character became a symbol for feminism, as women finally had the momentum needed to stay in the workforce.
