A professional organiser has helped Australian TV presenter Jessica Rowe transform her cluttered pantry with impressive results.

Anita Birges, founder of Mise en Place Professional Organising in Sydney, couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the state of Jessica’s pantry and knew she had to assist.

‘Let’s just say that this is one of those pantries that was crying out for help,’ Anita wrote and shared a video on Instagram.

Jessica said she knew the seven-shelf pantry needed a makeover when she couldn’t find the chocolate she was craving.

The pantry was originally cluttered and lacked structure; images shared show pasta boxes, spreads, snacks, tinned goods and various other items spread across the shelves.

But with some guidance from Anita, the storage space was cleaned to perfection using several containers, lazy Susan turntables and tiered shelves for the smaller items.

Dry ingredients such as pasta and flour were placed into containers on the second top shelf, tinned goods, snacks and lollies were in the middle and other essentials at the bottom.

During the process, the pair came across an ‘awfully sticky’ substance on the top shelf along with five packets of Rice Bubbles cereal – four of which were open.

Anita also found a spice that had expired in 2003, leaving her shocked.

The pantry organisation inspired others online to clean and declutter their own homes too, with many tagging friends in the comments of the video.

Step-by-step guide to the perfect pantry

STEP ONE: Take everything out of the pantry and chuck anything that is past its use-by date.

STEP TWO: Get your air-tight stackable containers and decant all of your flours, rice and grains into them.

STEP THREE: Use tubs or baskets for foods like your ready meals, backstock and snacks.

STEP FOUR: Use tiered shelves and turntables for foods like spices, oils, sauces and jars to make it easier to see them.

STEP FIVE: Label everything.

Earlier this year Anita shared how to ‘reset’ your fridge for the week – and that Sunday is the perfect day to do so.

The cleaning expert categorises the items in her fridge by making sure everything has a place and is labelled.

The top shelf of Anita’s fridge is reserved for dairy, milk, cheese and cold meats, while the middle shelf is stacked with pre-planned meals.

The bottom shelf holds snacks and breads in two separate clear containers.

At the end of every week, Anita organises the fridge removing any fruit and vegetables that ‘aren’t good anymore’.

The produce is often placed into compost to break down naturally over time rather than simply thrown away in the rubbish.

Anita advised to check products that have a ‘best before’ or ‘expiry date’, which could include cheeses, milk and eggs.

‘Bring anything that’s about to be out of date to the front of the fridge,’ she wrote online.

Once the old food has been replaced with fresh produce, she then starts to meal prep lunchboxes for the week, which saves time and money in advance.

How to ‘reset’ your fridge:

1. Go through your fruit and vegetables and compost anything that’s no good anymore

2. Bring anything that’s about to be out of date to the front of the fridge. You can even set up a container that says ‘use this week’☺️

3. Prep some cut up veg for snacks and lunchboxes

4. Go through any leftovers
